Caviar: Fundraiser / Auction

International art for the cost of a bad haircut: Caviar – A Studio Béluga Fundraiser/Auction
What do Nathalie Quagliotto’s sculpture, Sky Fairchild-Waller’s emoticon-entitled video, and Sam Mogelonsky’s miniature staircase have in common? They all cost $20 at Caviar, Studio Béluga’s black tie fundraiser and art auction taking place this Saturday night, May 21st 2011. The event is part of the Mile End’s Ateliers Portes Ouvertes (APO), an open studio event that invites passers by to visit the usually private confines of an artist’s work space. For art collectors and those who dream of becoming art collectors, Caviar is a highlight not to be missed.
Showcasing the work of over 30 local and international artists, Caviar gives viewers the opportunity to purchase works well below their market worth. On May 21st when the doors open at 8pm sharp, all the works on display will be on sale for a flat rate of $20. Pre-sales have not been permitted. Selected pieces, which include works by established artists such as Mark Clintberg and conceptual pieces by Bruce Mau Design associate Duy Khuong Pham, will be available for purchase via silent auction. Performance artist Sally Lee will also be in attendance, roaming the APO evening with her interactive piece Under Pressure, inviting participants to immerse themselves in an inflatable torso-sized embrace.
